The thesis particularly focuses on subject National history and geography and regional theme. It is divided into two main parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the origin and nature of integrated thematic teaching which is considered as a possible option for changes in education system. It describes a psychological development of an early school age pupil and specifics of surroundings of the first grade. This part also examines the history of Roudnice nad Labem and selected areas in the town. The practical part focuses on the preparation of weekly thematic unit and its application in the 5th class of primary school. It focuses on the practical application of knowledge and the development of key competencies. The functionality of this model is confirmed by using evaluation of a questionnaire and daily reflection.
