Bylo zjištěno, že jen 3 kmeny byly schopné růstu na čistém toluenu. Pokud byl do média přidáván neionogenní detergent Tween zvyšující rozpustnost toluenu, byl zaznamenán růst u 19 kmenů. Pro praktické bioremediace byly vytipovány tři bakteriální kmeny (Pseudomonas gessardii, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas putida atyp.) s vysokou rychlostí růstu a se schopností růst na toluenu i bez přídavku Tween. The aim of this thesis was to assess the capability of 33 bacterial strains isolated from contaminated localities to metabolize toluene as a sole source of carbon and energy. Only 3 strains were able to grow on pure toluene. When non-ionic detergent Tween was added to the medium in order to increase toluene solubility, growth of 19 bacterial strains was observed. For purposes of practical bioremediation three bacterial strains were selected (Pseudomonas gessardii, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas putida atyp.) exhibiting high growth rate and capability to grow on pure toluene without Tween.
