Práce obsahuje pět kapitol. První se zabývá obecnou charakteristikou jezera před rokem 1960, tj. před začátkem ekologické katastrofy. Je rozdělena na šest podkapitol, popisujících Aralské jezero, jeho klima, řeky, vlévající se do jezera, floru a faunu oblasti, chemické složení vody a jeho ekonomicko-geografickou charakteristiku. Druhá kapitola seznamuje s příčinami vzniku ekologické katastrofy. Třetí popisuje v osmi podkapitolách následky katastrofy: změny plochy, hladiny a chemického složení vody Aralského jezera, vliv vysychání jezera na klima, ekosystémy, životní prostředí, strukturu půdy, floru a faunu a na sociálně-ekonomickou sféru. Ćtvrtá kapitola je zaměřena na následky katastrofy v Karakalpacké republice, která je postižena nejhůře. První podkapitola seznamuje s charakteristikou Karakalpakstánu, druhá líčí následky katastrofy. Pátá kapitola popisuje projekty, které se týkají zlepšení stavu Aralského jezera. Následují závěry, přílohy a seznamy citované a použité literatury. My bachelor work deals with the ecological catastrophe of the Aral Sea - its shrinking. The work consists of five chapters. The first one profiles the Aral Sea before 1960, i.e. before the ecological catastrophe. I described its general outline, climate, feeding rivers, flora and fauna, water chemical composition and economic-geographical situation.The second chapter explains the causes of the catastrophe. The third one describes its consequences: the surface area, the sea level and the water chemical composition changes, the impact on the climate, the ecosystems, the surrounding areas, the flora and fauna, the soil composition, and on the social-economical sphere. The fourth chapter is focused on the consequences of the catastrophe in the Karakalpac Republic, that has been struck by the catastrophy most. It characterizes the Karakalpac Republic and describes the consequences of the catastrophy in that area. The fifth chapter deals with the projects that are aimed at the improvement of the Aral Sea.
