První kapitola se zabývá hudebním stylem progresivní metal, do kterého se skupina svou tvorbou zařazuje, jeho původem a stručnou charakteristikou. Následující kapitola je zaměřena na historický vývoj hudebního souboru. V deseti podkapitolách jsou uvedeny informace týkající se okolnosti vzniku a počátků Dream Theater, prvních nahrávek, stejně jako všech vydaných studiových alb a záznamů z koncertů. Dále je zde uvedeno složení skupiny i změny, ke kterým v průběhu její existence došlo. Také jsou zmíněna všechna koncertní turné. Události jsou chronologicky seřazené. Ve třetí kapitole jsou detailně popsány nejdůležitější osobnosti uskupení, jejich profesní i osobní život. Poslední část je praktická a je věnována úpravě vybrané skladby z repertoáru Dream Theater, respektive popisu jednotlivých kroků, které jsem při její úpravě učinil. The work is dedicated to a band called Dream Theater. The first chapter deals with progressive metal as a musical style, to which the band is ranked due to its production, the origin of the style and its concise characteristics. The following chapter is focused on historic development of the musical group. In the next ten sub-chapters, there are introduced information relating to formation and early years of Dream Theater, their first records, as well as all their released studio albums and recordings of their concerts. Then there are mentioned members of the band and also some personal changes that occur during the band?s existence. Further, there are listed all their tours, too. The events are sorted chronologically. In the third chapter, the most important personalities of the group are described in details together with their professional and personal lives. The last part is practical, and it is dedicated to modification of one song from the Dream Theater?s repertoire, especially to description of the individual steps I made during its arrangement.
