Josef Schiller patří do skupiny lidí, kteří bojovali za zlepšení životních podmínek dělníků. Narodil se 29. června 1846 v Liberci. Jeho otec pracoval jako tkadlec. V deseti letech začal Schiller pracovat v jedné liberecké textilní továrně. O několik let později se setkal s jedním z nejdůležitějších lidí v jeho životě, s Josefem Kroschem, který se právě vrátil z Německa. Ten Schillera přivedl k dělnickému hnutí. Seznámil ho s myšlenkami, brožurami a knihami Ferdinanda Lassalla a dalších. Josef Schiller se stal jedním z nejvýznamnějších lidí tohoto hnutí. Promlouval na různých shromážděních, stal se členem několika spolků, dokonce stanul v čele jednoho z nich. Díky své aktivitě byl pronásledován úřady. Ve vězení strávil celkem tři roky, musel často měnit zaměstnání a místa pobytu. Díky tomu ale poznal životní podmínky různých dělníků. V roce 1874 se stal místopředsedou sjezdu v Hainfeldu, kde byla založena Sociálně-demokratická strana Rakouska. Josef Schiller byl znám jako výborný žurnalista, básník a řečník. Zemřel 16. srpna 1897 v Pensylvánii v USA. Sem emigroval kvůli sporům, které měl s ostatními a mladšími členy hnutí. Není vyloučení, že spáchal sebevraždu. This diploma thesis is concernned with Josef Schiller. He falls into the group of the men, who were fighting for better living conditions of the workers. He was born on 29th June 1846 in Liberec in a poor family. His father worked as a weaver. Josef Schiller was only nine years old and he started to work in one of the textile factories in Liberec. In a few years, he metone for him very important man, Josef Krosch. He just returned from Germany. He took up with the questions of the social-demokratic movement, with the ideas of Ferdinand Lassalle, Karl Marx or Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch there. Josef Krosch as a teacher gave him first books of these men and Josef Schiller became one of the most important people of this movement. He was activ. He was a speaker on the meetings, he took part in the workers´associations. He was also the chairman of the one of these associations. Because of the activity, he was persecuted. He spent in sum three years in the prison and he had to change his jobs and places, where he lived. He knew so the living conditions of the workers very good. In 1874 he took part as the vice-chairman in the congress in Hainfeld, where the Social-democratic part of Austria came into being. He was known as a good journalist, poet and speaker. He died on 16th August 1897 in Pennsylvania in the USA. He emigrated to the USA because of the contentions that he had with another and younger people in the movement.
