Nezbytné je představit historii země, bez které bychom nepochopili samotný původ apartheidu. Mimo historie týkající se prvních osadníků a kolonizace je klíčové představit principy apartheidu. Jeho původ, nastolení, upevňování a samozřejmě i boj proti němu. To vše nám pomůže pochopit, s čím se Jihoafričané potýkali a díky čemu se jim podařilo systém přeměnit. Samotný přechod k demokracii je nutno přenést na jednu z mnoha teorií, které dnes máme k dispozici. Stále se ale proces přechodu nedá považovat za dokončený. Demokracie v Jihoafrické republice je stále slabá a křehká, plná vážných problémů, které se v 90. letech ještě rozrostly.. -- Abstract: The main topic of this thesis is a destruction of openly racist regime and transition to a democracy in South Africa during 20th century. Necessary is to present a history of this country without which we can not understand the origins of the apartheid policy. Apart from the history of the first settlers and the colonization, it is crucial to introduce the principles of apartheid. Its origins, establishing, consolidation, and the fight against it as well. This helps us to understand the struggle of South Africans against the racist policy and their success in a process of transition to democracy. This particular transition is seen as an example of a modern transitology theory within a political science. Last but not the least we don't consider the act of transition to be finished yet. Democracy in South Africa is still weak, fragile, full of serious problems and many new problems has appeared after the transition during '90s.
