Nejprve stručně charakterizuji cestu obecně jako symbol. Dále uvádím domácí i zahraniční autory, kteří motiv cesty nějakým způsobem zpracovávají ve svých dílech. V další části představuji osobnost Jana Čepa, jeho život a dílo. Jádrem diplomové práce jsou interpretace jednotlivých Čepových povídek, ve kterých lze najít motiv cesty. Motiv cesty u Jana Čepa procházel vývojem, proměňoval se. Výsledkem mé práce je tedy formulace několika základních typů motivu cesty v prozaických textech. Podle tohoto klíče jsou rozčleněny i interpretované Čepovy povídky. Na základě těchto charakteristik usuzuji na vývoj pojetí motivu cesty u Jana Čepa. Tento vývoj lze chápat i jako vývoj Čepova autorského typu. My Master' s thesis deals with the motif of a way in the narrative of Jan Cep. First I characterize the way as a symbol. Then I present Czech and foreign authors who treat the motif of a way in their stories. In the next part I present the personality of Jan Cep as well as his life and work. The core of the thesis is intepretation of various short stories of Jan Cep in which we could find the motif of a way (journey). The last type of journey is spiritual wandering, the inner metamorphosis of man. The interpreted stories of Cep are classified according to this key. Considering these characteristics as a base I assume a certain evolution of the concept of a way in the work of Cep which can be understood also as development of Cep' s authorial style.
