Vybrané rizikové prvky v nivních sedimentech řeky Ploučnice a Ohře z posledních století
Title statement Vybrané rizikové prvky v nivních sedimentech řeky Ploučnice a Ohře z posledních století = Selected risk elements in floodplain sediments of the Ploučnice and the Ohře rivers in the last centuries / Lucie Majerová Personal name Majerová, Lucie, (dissertant) Phys.des. This work deals with the historical contamination by risk elements in the Ploučnice and the Ohře rivers and their tributaries. In the Ploučnice River catchment, due to uranium mining in Stráž pod Ralskem, pollution of sediment mainly by uranium, radioisotope 226Ra, nickel and less specific risk elements such as lead and zinc, was studied. In the area between towns of Mimoň and Česká Lípa, the pollution related to uranium mining and processing was confirmed; in the area downstream Česká Lípa this pollution was much lower. Pollution by mercury and occasionally by lead, uranium and copper was examined in the floodplain sediments of the Ohře River and its tributaries. Former chemical plant in Marktredwitz, Germany, was identified as the largest source of mercury in the catchment of the Reslava River. Historical mining of cinnabar in Horní Luby in the catchment of the Lubinka River was another significant source of mercury, which, however, affected the Ohře River less than the former chemical factory in Marktredwitz. The study of channel sediments, dam reservoir sediments and suspended particulate matter proved that Skalka Dam, completed in 1964, suppressed previous extensive export of mercury from the Reslava River farther to the Ohře River.
