This bachelor thesis is dealing with selected plays of William Shakespeare, which contain the play within a play and therefore deal with the psychological terms of ego and identity and also with the symbiosis of reality and imagination. In association with these terms, Keats' term of negative capability is crucial in analyzing the renunciation of the ego in Shakespeare's characters and in Shakespeare himself.
