Mapuje novinový tisk v ústeckém okrese, vznik jednotlivých titulů, jejich existenci a zánik v čase, důvody, které k zániku vedly, proměny obsahu a formy informací, které poskytovaly, vztah k událostem i společnosti, kterých se týkaly a která je konzumovala. Též postupný vývoj redakcí, jejich personální a technické proměny. Ponejvíce ale popisuje dopodrobna každodennost redakcí a osoby redaktorů, aby co možná nejvíce umožnila pochopení měnících se podmínek, v nichž noviny od roku 1989 až do počátku pandemie covid-19 vznikaly a tak i snadnějšímu pochopení dění v ústecké společnosti ve stejném období.
