Po zběžném shrnutí realizace evropské měnové unie věnuje pozornost maaastrichtským konvergenčním kritériím, která jsou nedílnou součástí práce. Tato kapitola analyzuje plnění kritérií členskými zeměmi a zdůvodňuje rovněž jejich neplnění. Dále uvádí problémy, které jsou spojené zejména s těmito konvergenčními kritérii, a naznačuje jejich možné řešení. Další kapitola je zaměřená na dosavadní vývoj Paktu stability a růstu včetně jeho reformy. Závěrečná část zahrnuje rozdílné úhly pohledu, postředy a kritiky pozorovatelů, kteří působí uvnitř i vně Hospodářskou a měnovou unii a hodnotí dosavadní činnost eurozóny. The purpose of this bachelor´s thesis is to assess, how the euro area has been working during past ten years, than from its beginning. After a brief summary of the European Monetary System introduction an attention on the Maastricht´s convergence criteria, which is an integral part of the thesis, has been paid. This chapter examines how the Member States meet the criteria and on the other hand also gives some reasons for their not meeting as well. Following are described problems related particularly to the convergence criteria and some ideas how to deal and resolve them are given there. Next chapter has been focused on present development of the Stability and Growth Pact including its reform. The final part of the thesis comprises different points of views, perceptions and a criticism expressed by observers working inside as well as outside of the Economic and Monetary Union and also evaluates existing activity of the euro area.
