Mathioliho je jedním z nejznámějších děl renesančního lékařství na našem území. Renesanční medicína je sama o sobě fascinujícím tématem ke zkoumání pro své náhlé inovace a objevy, nicméně v mnoha ohledech stále setrvává na pilířích poznatků ze starověku, a nikoliv na nových myšlenkách. Tato práce si dává za cíl posouzení účinku bylinných a živočišných prostředků určených autorem k vnitřnímu užití za účelem léčby či úlevy od neduhů hlavy jako jsou migrény, epilepsie, závrati, mrtvice a další. Jednotlivé byliny jsou vybrány z příslušného oddílu Herbáře, identifikovány, uvedeme domnělé léčivé účinky podle Herbáře a následně zhodnotíme jejich účinek reálný. Rovněž se pokusíme vysvětlit původ víry v domnělé účinky rostlin popisem vývoje medicíny od starověku po raný novověk.. -- Abstract: The Herbal of Pietro Andrea Mathioli is one of the most renowned pieces of literature concerning renaissance medicine in Czechia. The topic of renaissance medicine is fascinating all by itself for its numerous innovations and discoveries, nonetheless it was built and stood on the foundations from Antiquity, rather than on the new ideas. This thesis aims to scrutinize the effects of herbs and herbal remedies, as well as some animal ones, which were intended for internal use to cure or relieve the maladies or ailments of the head, such as headache, migraine, epilepsy, vertigo, stroke etc. The individudal plants are chosen from the specific chapters of the Herbal, properly identified and connected to their supposed healing properties, then assessed and compared by their real effects. To explain some of the reasons behind the beliefs in the healing powers of mentioned plants we also try to briefly review the history of medicine from the antiquity to the early modern period.
