Schuster byl nejen stavitelem a architektem, ale během období nacistické okupace zastával také funkci starosty města Hronova. Po válce byl neprávem obviněn z kolaborace s okupačním režimem. S nástupem komunismu došlo navíc ke znárodnění jeho firmy. Pozornost bude věnována jeho stavbám, které byly ovlivněny novým architektonickým směrem, a to funkcionalismem.. -- Abstract: The subject of the thesis is the life and work of Josef Schuster (1901-1948), who primarily as a regional architect in Hronov and surroundings. The thesis focuses on Schuster's contribution to the development of functionalist architecture in Eastern Bohemia and analyzes the sources of inspiration that shaped his architectural style. A key moment in Schuster's professional career was his experience with the construction of terraced houses in Náchod-Babí, based on a design by Adolf Loos, whose functionalist principles significantly influenced Schuster's architectural approach. A significant part of the thesis is dedicated to Schuster's collaboration with Jindřich Freiwald on projects in Hronov, particularly the construction of the Jirásek Theatre and the municipal savings bank. An important aspect of Schuster's professional life was also his role as mayor of Hronov from 1942 to 1945, during which he participated in city governance and actively promoted the development of public infrastructure. The thesis analyzes Schuster's distinctive style, characterized by a synthesis of functionalist aesthetics with a sensitive approach to historical context and material authenticity. The aim of the thesis is to place Schuster's work within the context of Czech regional architecture in the first half of the 20th century and to highlight his importance in the local development of functionalism.
