Abstract Tématem diplomové práce je prozkoumání velikostní struktury firem a zjištění konkurenční situace firem ve vybraném odvětví. Velikosti firem mají významný vliv na fungování tržního prostředí v určitém odvětví, respektive velikost a počet firem předurčuje typ tržní struktury, ve kterém firmy fungují. Cílem práce je prozkoumat velikostní strukturu firem v odvětví telekomunikačních služeb (mobilních operátorů), zhodnotit konkurenční situaci v daném odvětví a její budoucí vývoj. V ČR působí tři značky mobilních operátorů: Telefónica O2, T-Mobile a Vodafone. Jejich služeb využívá téměř každý obyvatel ČR. Protože toto odvětví funguje na základě přenosů informací, chování a rozvoj těchto firem významně ovlivňuje nejen technologický, ale i ekonomickosociální rozvoj současné společnosti. Tak jako na celém světě i v ČR se trh s telekomunikačními službami vyznačuje oligopolní strukturou trhu, kdy v odvětví zpravidla působí několik málo firem s významnou tržní mocí. Díky nedokonalostem trhu, vládním zásahům a tržní moci současných operátorů se postupně po téměř dvaceti letech vytvořilo poměrně stabilní tržní prostředí, které vede ke stabilním cenám a poklesu investic, což brzdí zmíněný rozvoj občanské společnosti. Avšak s cenami i investicemi by mohl zahýbat příchod nového konkurenta, o kterém se nyní intenzivně uvažuje. The topic of this thesis is to examine the structure of firms according to size and establish a competitive situation in the selected sectors. Size of firms has a significant impact on how a functioning market environment in a particular sector, or the size and number of firms determines the type of market structure in which firms operate. The aim of the study was to examine the structure of firms according to size in the telecommunication services (mobile operators), to assess the competitive situation in the sector and its future development. The Czech Republic has three brands of mobile operators Telefónica O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. Their services are used by nearly every inhabitant of the CZ. Since the sector operates on the basis of information transmission, their behavior, and affects not only the importance of developing technology, but also socialeconomy development of modern society. In the Czech Republic as in the whole world, the market for telecommunication services is characterized by oligopolistic market structure, which typically operate in the few firms with significant market power. Due to market imperfections, government intervention and market power of the current operators are gradually after nearly twenty years create a stable market environment, leading to stable prices and a decline in investment, which hampers the development of the said society.
