Jelikož se jedná o silné a zásadní téma, které často svou emotivností posouvá hranice estetické distance. Nejprve je třeba se obecně zabývat tématem smrti a jejího zobrazování, a po té problematikou estetické distance a odolností představivosti. Zde vyjdeme z problematiky psychické distance, tak jak ji popsal Edward Bullough a na jejímž základě byla formulována distance estetická a dále z myšlení Kendalla Waltona o odolnosti představivosti. Naše uvažování aplikujeme na současné umění, z čehož se hlavně zaměříme na tvorbu Joela- Petera Witkina a Marlene Dumas. Oba autoři pracují se souvislostí smrti a lidského těla, a právě toto spojení působí velmi silně. Work will deal with the theme of death and its representation.
