Alternative types of homework in EFL teaching / Natalia Antipova. -- 2023. -- 90 listů. -- Vedoucí práce Natalia Orlová. -- Oponent Jaroslava Jelínková. -- Abstrakt: Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem Domácí úkoly jako posilovací nástroj ve výuce EFL a také nástroj pro vyvolání zájmu a zvědavosti o výuku jazyků u mladých studentů (ve věku 6-10 let). V teoretické kapitole autor uvádí téma domácích úkolů a důvody, proč a jak je zadávat, sleduje formy a materiály pro domácí úkoly považované za tradiční, včetně kritérií efektivního domácího zadání. Na základě charakteristiky mladých studentů jako cílové skupiny následující studie jsou diskutovány faktory, které mohou ovlivnit výuku cizích jazyků. Autor tvrdí, že problematika zvídavosti má dostatečný dopad na osvojování jazyka začátečníky a teoretizuje její využití ve výuce a studiu cizích jazyků. Pro účely zjištění postojů studentů k domácím úkolům byla pomocí dotazníků shromážděna pre- a post-data. Na základě výhod a výzev domácích úkolů autor zahrnuje kritéria efektivní domácí práce, která může sloužit jako posilující nástroj a rozvíjet a podporovat zvídavost u dětí. Autor navrhl některé konkrétní typy alternativních domácích úkolů, např. hraní s kostkami, hraní rolí s prvky informační mezery a krátká videa pro revizi lexika, videa pro instruktáž a lešení při plnění domácích úkolů a vlastní videa na ukázce pro posílení mluvení. Byl proveden akční výzkum zaměřený na zkoumání dopadu, který by to mělo na zvědavost studentů a postoj k domácím úkolům obecně. Zjištění odhalila, že navrhované a používané při výuce alternativní typy úkolů významně zlepšily postoje mladých studentů EFL k domácím úkolům.. -- Abstrakt: This diploma thesis deals with the topic of Homework as a reinforcement tool in EFL learning as well as a tool for provoking interest and curiosity of language learning at young students (age of 6-10 years old). In the theoretical chapter, the author introduces the topic of homework and the reasons why and how it should be assigned, observes the forms and materials for homework considered to be traditional, including the criteria of an effective home assignment. On the basis of the characteristics of the young learners as a target group of the following study, the factors which can influence foreign language teaching are discussed. The author argues that the issue of curiosity has a sufficient impact on language acquisition by beginners and theorises its use in foreign language teaching and learning. For the purpose of finding the students' attitudes towards homework, pre- and post-data were collected with the help of the questionnaires. Based on the benefits and challenges of homework, the author encompasses the criteria of an effective home assignment which can serve as a reinforcement tool and develop and support curiosity in children. The author designed some particular types of alternative home assignments, e.g. playing with dice, role-playing with the elements of the information gap, and short videos for revision of lexis, videos for instruction and scaffolding while doing the homework, and self-made videos on the sample for speaking reinforcement. The action research aimed at investigating of impact it would have on students' curiosity and attitude to the homework in general was undertaken. The findings revealed that the suggested and applied in teaching alternative types of assignments significantly improved the attitudes towards homework of the young EFL learners.
