Devil in the Faustian Literature / Markéta Zálešáková. -- 2025. -- 71 listů. -- Vedoucí práce Klára Kolinská. -- Oponent Filip Krtička. -- Abstrakt: Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá postavu Ďábla ve třech klíčových adaptacích faustovského mýtu: The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus od Christophera Marlowa, Faust od Johanna Wolfganga von Goethea a Doktor Faustus od Thomase Manna. Cílem studie je prozkoumat, jak posuny v zobrazování Ďábla odráží změny každého příslušného ducha doby. Prostřednictvím textové a komparativní analýzy tento výzkum odhaluje, že antropocentrická povaha narativu rámuje postavu Mefistofela nejen jako personifikaci zla, ale také jako zrcadlo hlavního lidského protagonisty. Tato práce proto nabízí jedinečnou perspektivu na literárního Ďábla, jehož tradiční pojetí jako kosmického protivníka lidstva je upozaďováno před zobrazením jako zrcadlo individuálního člověka. Práce rozšiřuje současné chápání faustovského mýtu tím, že zdůrazňuje komplexní roli postavy Mefistofela.. -- Abstrakt: This thesis examines the figure of the Devil in three key adaptations of the Faustian myth: Christopher Marlowe's The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust and Thomas Mann's Doktor Faustus. The aim of the study is to explore how the shift in the Devil portrayal reflects the changes of each respective zeitgeist. Through textual and comparative analysis this research reveals that the anthropocentric nature of the narrative frames the Mephistophelean character not merely as a personification of evil, but also a mirror to the central human protagonist. This work therefore offers a unique perspective on the literary Devil, whose traditional portrayal as a cosmic adversary to humanity is subordinated by a depiction as a mirror to the individual human. The thesis expands the current understanding of the Faustian myth by highlighting the complex role of the Mephistophelian character.
