V první části práce je vysvětlena problematika shrinking cities a jiných blízkých konceptů. Poté jsou uvedené příklady měst z celého světa, která je možno považovat za shrinking cities. Jsou zde také zkoumány příčiny vzniku smršťujících se měst a důsledky pro jejich rozvoj. V závěrečné teoretické části jsou popsána opatření smart shrinking a jiné strategie, která již byla aplikována ve světě. V další části je podrobně analyzován vývoj obyvatelstva a bytového fondu v Benešově nad Ploučnicí. V závěru jsou navržena případná opatření a vlastní strategie pro budoucí vývoj města, která jsou prodiskutována se starostou města.. -- Abstrakt: The subject of this thesis is an analysis of Benešov nad Ploučnicí from the perspective of demographic indices with a focus on a housing fund. The first part of the thesis explains the phenomenon of shrinking cities and other similar concepts. Then there are examples of cities from all around the world that can be considered shrinking cities. The thesis also examines causes of origin of shrinking cities and consequences of their development. In the final part of the theoretical part of the thesis, smart shrinking measure and other strategies that have already been applied around the world are described. Furthermore, in-depth analysis of a population development and the housing fund in Benešov nad Ploučnicí is provided. Possible measures and strategies for a future development of the city, that were discussed with the mayor of the city, are provided in the last part of the thesis.
