Requiem je konstanta, která již v hudebním světě existuje po několik staletí, ale pohledy na ztvárnění tohoto starého textu se natolik liší, že stojí za to přístupy jednotlivých skladatelů přiblížit a pokusit se analyzovat jednotlivá requiem z několika základních hledisek. Zajímají nás samozřejmě díla českých skladatelů, které možná veřejnosti nejsou tak známé, ale jistě mají svou nepopiratelnou kvalitu a je třeba se o nich zmiňovat. Dalším úhlem pohledu je pak ten pedagogický. Má vůbec requiem, jenž často bývá jedním z vrcholných děl skladatelů šanci oslovit dnešního studenta základní či střední školy? A mají studenti možnost se k takovému dílu během studia dostat? Pravdou je, že requiem je jednou z hudebních forem, které posluchače přitahují z náboženských i filozofických důvodů a v neposlední řadě také pro jisté tajemno, které je v něm obsaženo a je spojeno s odchodem člověka z tohoto světa. Přesto nebo snad právě proto je ve většině případů dílo nabito pozitivní energií a závěr bývá katarzí, ve které se pojí víra, odpuštění a naděje a je to pro posluchače vždy velký prožitek. This doctoral thesis aims to provide a detailed overview of a requiem and its musical adaptation, starting at the beginning of the twentieth century up to the present day. The requiem is a constant, which has existed in the musical world for centuries, but the approaches to this composition have been so different, that it is worthy to have a closer look at the attempts of Czech composers and analyse each requiem from different points of view. We are interested in works by Czech composers. Not all of them may be well-known among the musical society, but they sure have their undeniable quality and there is a strong need of remembering them. Another aspect of perception is the pedagogical utilization. Has the requiem (beeing one of the highest scores of most composers) got a chance to speak to today´s students of grammar or high schools? And do the students have a chance to get acknowledged with a requiem during their studies? The truth is, that the requiem is one of musical forms, which attract people for its religion and philosophical contents and some kind of mystical power connected to passing away. In spite of that, the work is usually filled with positive power and the end comes to catharsis, which is full of faith, forgiveness and hope and it is always a great experience for all listeners.
