Výzkum je rozdělen na dvě hlavní části. V první, historické, dochází k rozboru ideového zázemí, myšlenkových pramenů, jednotlivých konceptů a kontextu uvažování Otců zakladatelů, na jejichž základě je republikánská tradice Otců zakladatelů definována šestnácti charakteristikami. Druhá část práce se zabývá současným americkým politickým myšlením, v němž rozpracování těchto charakteristik hledá, a také nachází, napříč několika vědeckými disciplínami zabývajícími se myšlením o politice. Zkoumání jsou autoři jak tzv. neo-republikánské politické teorie jako Michael Sandel či Philip Pettit, tak i myslitelé přiřazovaní k jiným proudům současného politického myšlení jako konzervatismu, kosmopolitní demokracie či různých proudů demokratické politické teorie. Práce identifikuje definované prvky republikánské politické teorie Otců zakladatelů v celé této rozmanité autorské paletě, a dochází závěru, že republikánská tradice Otců zakladatelů je v dnešním politickém myšlení stále živá. This thesis examines the Republican Tradition of US Founding Fathers in contemporary political thought. The research is divided into two parts. In the opening "historical" one is the main focus aimed at the ideological background, ideational sources, particular concepts and the context of the Founding Fathers' political-philosophical considerations. On such a basis, the thesis then moves to identify sixteen particular characteristics defining the republican tradition of the American Founding Fathers. These characteristics are searched for in contemporary American political thought in the second part of the thesis. The republican tradition of the Founding Fathers is found across multiple academic fields concerned about ideas in politics. The research investigates the work of both the authors of so called "neo-republican" political theory such as Michael Sandel or Philip Pettit and the thinkers generally aligned with the other different currents of contemporary political thought such as conservatism, cosmopolitan democracy or other diverse streams of democratic political theory. The thesis identifies the defined characteristics of the Founding Fathers' republican tradition as present in all these diverse works concluding that the examined tradition is still very much present in contemporary American political philosophy.
